PSG - Football tactics and formations

Paris Saint-Germain travel to Brest on Friday aiming to maintain their 100% record in Ligue 1 this season.

Although PSG have won both of their matches to date, they sit third in the standings on goal difference behind Angers and newly promoted Clermont, two rivals who have made an unexpectedly strong start to the season.

REVEALED: The most valuable players in the world

Meanwhile, the full might of PSG has not been felt yet. They have been unable to field numerous key players because of international commitments earlier in the summer, meaning that they have played virtual ‘B’ teams in their 2-1 win over Troyes and subsequent 4-2 home victory over Strasbourg.

That trend could continue in Brest, although head coach Mauricio Pochettino has played his cards very close to his chest with regards the fitness of his international players.

Lionel Messi, Gianluigi Donnarumma Neymar, Marquinhos, Marco Verratti, Angel Di Maria and Leandro Parades, then, may all feature at the weekend, although the prevailing opinion is that they will wait until next week at least – and possibly until after the September international break.

Meanwhile, there are still injury problems in the PSG ranks to deal with. Starting left-back Juan Bernat is not expected to play until September after a year on the sidelines, while Colin Dagba is also ruled out.

PSG, then, are likely to field a starting XI with some less familiar faces on Friday, although they will still be led by Kylian Mbappe, who has been in sparkling form down the left so far this season, despite not being credited with a goal yet.

Mauro Icardi should play through the centre and Julian Draxler could feature off the right.

In midfield, Gini Wijnaldum will continue to be the star man, while Ander Herrera and Eric-Dina Ebimbe are in line to play, assuming there are no internationals fit from the outset.

An unchanged defence, meanwhile, would see Achraf Hakimi remain the attacking overlapping threat down the right, with Thilo Kehrer and Presnel Kimpembe flanked with Abdou Diallo on the left.

Keylor Navas should start in goal, though he is perhaps under more threat than anyone with the arrival of Dunnarumma.
