What is the Premier League table this season?

Manchester City began the defence of their Premier League title in the worst possible way as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

The big news before the game was Harry Kane’s absence from the Tottenham squad altogether, as rumours of an imminent move to City only intensified.

Jack Grealish made his Premier League debut for City but, after an excellent start in the first 15 minutes, the visitors struggled thereafter.

Heung-Min Son hit the winner on 55 minutes as he cut in from the left and lashed into the bottom corner past Ederson.

Steven Bergwijn missed a glorious chance to double Spurs’ lead but the home side were rarely threatened as they held on for a one-goal victory.

In the earlier game on Sunday, Newcastle and West Ham were involved in a six-goal thriller at St James’ Park.

Newcastle twice took the lead in the first half with Aaron Creswell’s goal sandwiching strikes from Callum Wilson and Jacob Murphy.

But West Ham dominated the second half as goals from Said Benrahma, Tomas Soucek and Michail Antonio earned the Londoners a 4-2 victory.

It was a good weekend for the other Premier League favourites as Man Utd thrashed Leeds 5-1, Chelsea defeated Crystal Palace 3-0 and Liverpool beat Norwich 3-0 in Saturday’s matches.

Man Utd end the first weekend top of the table on goal difference.
