The second wave has not subsided and 80 districts still have high positivity, ICMR director-general Balram Bhargava said. India’s daily recoveries outnumbered new cases for the 46th day in succession on Monday. Apprising the GoM, health minister Harsh Vardhan said, “in the last 24 hours, we had only 46,148 cases, bringing the active caseload down to 5,72,994. The recovery rate has steadily increased and stands at 96.80% today. 58,578 recoveries were registered in the last 24 hours.”
Active cases are being reported mainly from Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Odisha. These states are reporting growth rate more than the national growth rate. While 19 states are reporting fatality figures in single digit, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu were reporting more than hundred deaths daily, health ministry data presented at the GoM showed.
The trajectory of mucormycosis infections in this phase was also discussed in GoM. About 40,845 cases were reported all over the country. Fatality from infections was 3,129. Of the total, 34,940 patients had Covid (85.5%), 26,187 (about 64.11%) were co-morbid for diabetes, while 21,523 (52.69%) of those infected were on steroids.
