Spain vs Sweden (0-0) Jun 14, 2021 Player Ratings and Stats

Spain were held to a 1-1 draw against Poland in their second Euro 2020 match, leaving them requiring a win against Slovakia in their final group stage game to stand a good chance of progress.

Alvaro Morata opened the scoring for La Roja but a brilliant second-half header from Robert Lewandowski levelled the game.

Gerard Moreno saw a penalty hit the post, with Morata unable to steer the rebound into the net.

A mixed evening from Morata, who left the field with three minutes remaining. The Juventus striker opened the scoring but then passed up opportunities to win the game. Notably, he was unable to convert the rebound to the penalty and then was denied from close range by some fine goalkeeping from Wojciech Szczesny.

Robert Lewandowski had come under scrutiny before this encounter for his poor scoring record at major tournaments with Poland. Rarely given a sight of goal in Poland’s opening match against Slovakia, he took his chance against Spain brilliantly, heading into the corner.

While Sergio Ramos looks for a new club back home in the capital, Aymeric Laporte has been drafted in by Luis Enrique having represented France at youth level. He was hardly a disaster in this match, but he was bodied by Lewandowski for the Poland goal where the veteran may well have coped better.

Spain’s best outlet against Sweden, Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba was again their outstanding player. Pushed forward relentlessly down the flank but got no reward.
